It's cold. It's raining. AND it's depressing. :/
Anyway, I decided to put some history for computer nerds here:
IBM has been regarded as one of the most important computer companies in the world. With many technological breakthroughs, IBM simply can't be ignored in the history of modern computing.
The roots of IBM date back to the merge of Herman Hollerith's Tabulating Machine Company. Founded in 1896, it came from Hollerith's earlier ventures in the 1880 national census, in which the tabulating machine that he had created allowed the United States to complete the national census in one year, saving time, money, and more accurate than past methods. Then in 1890, Hollerith was asked to build another one of these machines. But his biggest innovation in tabulation machines was in 1906, with one of the earliest forms of programming, being that it could perform other tasks without being rebuilt.
World War II caused IBM's profits to plummet. :(
But after World War II, IBM started its big break!
Between 1950 and 1960, Business Computing became more and more popular. IBM started a second generation of the 709 vacuum tube computer called the 7090 series. Among this series was the 7094, which is the first computer to have generated speech and sing.
And that is an abridged version of IBM history.
